The Regional Giving team works to secure philanthropic support among university alumni, parents, and friends across a range of geographical regions with a focus on gifts in the $50,000+ range. Through alumni and donor engagement, public outreach, and fundraising, Regional Giving works to strengthen unit development offices by consulting and partnering with campus fundraisers to increase donor involvement and overall philanthropy in regions across the nation.

Primary Responsibilities
Serving as the Associate Director of Development, Regional Giving for New York/Northeast region who will reside and work in the New York metro/Northeast region, you will work in collaboration with the Senior Director of Development, Regional Giving East Coast and Midwest to plan and implement a strong, proactive major gift program that focuses on discovery, cultivation and stewardship of donors of $50,000+ for UCLA in the NY metro and Northeast regions. You will use advanced fundraising concepts, strategic discovery efforts and regional expertise to develop and maintain a portfolio of individual major gift prospects capable of giving gifts between $50,000+ for assigned and new regions as appropriate. Working closely with the Senior Director of Development, Regional Giving East Coast and Midwest, the Deputy Director of Development and in close collaboration with campus fundraisers, you will gain knowledge of campus programs and priorities, support the development and stewardship of regional boards, plan and staff academic and administrative leadership travel (including Deans and faculty) to the region and coordinate large- and small-scale donor engagements. 

Qualifications
1. Minimum of five years of demonstrated annual/leadership giving experience and/or prior professional experience in a related field such as sales, marketing or business development. 

2. Experience in and strong documented record of gifts solicited and closed in the annual/leadership gifts range and/or solicitations of a similar nature, level and complexity.

3. Experience conceptualizing, planning and implementing special events is preferred.

4. Working knowledge of the principles and practices of fundraising in a university setting with a strong understanding of the goals, functions and services of a research university or institution of equivalent complexity. 

5. Ability to conceptualize and implement broad ranging and specific individual identification, cultivation and solicitation strategies. 

6. Excellent written communication skills with the ability to write/edit reports, business correspondence, solicitation materials, letters of acknowledgement, proposals and other fundraising materials, ability to prepare clear and compelling materials for fundraising events, initiatives and programs.

7. Excellent oral communication skills to collect and convey information with accuracy, diplomacy and tact; ability to persuasively express the mission of the university and the fundraising goals of the campus, especially as they relate to regional fundraising for NY and Northeast regions.

8. Ability to recruit, orient, train, organize, motivate and evaluate staff and volunteers who support development goals and programs.

9. Well-developed interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with colleagues and build and sustain lasting relationships with a wide variety of internal/external constituents.

10. Detail oriented with ability to work in a highly autonomous manner, take initiative, work independently and accept responsibility; adept at setting priorities and managing work flow to fulfill objectives and meet goals according to deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

11. Ability to be proactive, take initiative and propose new/innovative strategies for developing/expanding regional prospect and donor opportunities.

12. Knowledge of data management sufficient to retrieve data and isolate specific market segments.

13. Ability to maintain confidentiality of donor files and other information; impeccable integrity and discretion in dealing with donors, alumni, students, administrators and colleagues.

14. Proficiency with Microsoft suite of applications as well as familiarity with other database, spreadsheet, scheduling and email applications; willingness to learn new programs and applications in a prompt and efficient manner.

15. Ability to travel and work some weekends and/or evenings as needed.

16. Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
