Position Summary
The UCLA Anderson School of Management is one of the most prestigious business schools in the world and an innovator in management education and research. The qualifying, cultivation, soliciting and stewarding of donors, particularly in the area of major gifts, plays a vital role in moving forward the priorities and goals of the School.

Primary Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director, Major Gifts, and working closely with the Associate Dean of Development, the Associate Director, Major Gifts will plan and implement a strong, proactive program to secure major gifts from a portfolio of individual prospects in support of the School's mission and strategic plan. He/She will have responsibility for qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major individual prospects ($100,000 and up), with an emphasis on endowed chairs, fellowships, support for research centers, planned gifts, and endowments in the $250,000 to $1 million or higher range.

The Associate Director will have a wide range of duties to include working collaboratively with major gifts officers, faculty and key administrators to increase the number and size of individual gifts; providing quarterly and annual giving reports to ensure accountability; coordinating and staffing donor visits; working with Central Development and within the School; hosting VIP visitors to UCLA Anderson; and visiting specified geographic regions in the United States to cultivate donors. He/She will plan and implement strategic cultivation events and programming in assigned regions, working in concert with Alumni Relations and UCLA regional major gift officers. He/She will act as a liaison to the UCLA regional major gifts officers to foster effective collaboration between that office and UCLA Anderson in managing regional giving prospects and connecting central major gifts staff to appropriate staff and faculty at UCLA Anderson. The Associate Director will also maintain knowledge of, and effectively communicate, the campaign case for support and key funding priorities for the School.

In addition, the Associate Director will work closely with the School's Dean, Senior Associate Dean, Associate Deans, volunteers, faculty, students, development staff and other colleagues school-wide and campus-wide as well as accompany and staff Deans on prospect and donor calls. A background related to business or professional school education is preferred.

Qualifications
1. Minimum of three years of progressively responsible development experience, with a strong working knowledge of principles and practices of major gift fundraising, preferably in higher education, or equivalent experience in marketing, sales, or related field.

2. Proven management skills and the ability to effectively evaluate, prioritize, and develop individuals of all stages in a portfolio.

3. Experience in developing sophisticated strategies in planning, implementing and administering complex major gift solicitations.

4. Experience in making cold calls and resilience in dealing with initial resistance and rejection.

5. Strong documented record of gifts solicited and closed in the special and major gifts range.

6. Persuasive oral and written communication skills to prepare and present solicitation strategies, proposals and other marketing materials; strong ability to express the mission of the University and the fundraising goals of the campus, especially as they relate to the Anderson School of Management.

7. Ability and personality to work collaboratively with faculty, deans, volunteers and development colleagues campus-wide.

8. Ability to exercise initiative and accept responsibility to work proactively and with minimal supervision.

9. Skill in motivating colleagues, volunteers and donors; ability to manage volunteers and staff as needed.

10. Demonstrated skill in prioritizing multiple assignments and achieving high productivity and work quality under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

11. Proven skill in utilizing Microsoft Suite Office software and fundraising databases.

12. Ability to travel and work occasional nights and weekends.

13. Bachelors' degree is preferred.
